The Hebrew Alphabet
The Hebrew alphabet is made up of three types of letters; three Mother Letters, seven Double Letters, and twelve Simple Letters. Five of the Hebrew letters have "final” forms, in which they change shape (and numerical value) when they are placed at the end of a word.
Hebrew words are read from right to left. Each Hebrew letter also represents a numerical value.
The following are the Hebrew letters, their letter type, and numerical value:
Aleph - Mother Letter = 1
Beth - Double Letter = 2
Gimel - Double Letter = 3
Daleth - Double Letter = 4
Heh - Simple Letter = 5
Vav - Simple Letter = 6
Zayin - Simple Letter = 7
Cheth - Simple Letter = 8
Teth - Simple Letter= 9
Yod - Simple Letter = 10
Kaph - Double Letter = 20
Lamed - Simple Letter = 30
Mem - Mother Letter = 40
Nun - Simple Letter = 50
Samech - Simple Letter = 60
Ayin - Simple Letter = 70
Peh - Double Letter = 80
Tzaddi - Simple Letter = 90
Qoph - Simple Letter = 100
Resh - Double Letter = 200
Shin - Mother Letter = 300
Tav - Double Letter = 400
Kaph (final) - 500
Mem (final) - 600
Nun (final) - 700
Peh (final) - 800
