The Tarot
The tarot was originally a card game played medieval France and Italy. Some may argue that the tarot deck and its images can be traced back to ancient Egyptian mysteries but that is supposedly just speculation. What can’t be speculated is that these cards were adopted by certain societies in the nineteenth century and have subsequently been assigned all sorts of mystical and spiritual significance.
They tell the story of the soul, the story of the initiate, invoking deep cross-cultural archetypes immediately recognizable to both children and adults.
A typical tarot deck is made up of two types of cards; the Major Arcana, or Trumps, and the Minor Arcana, made up of court cards and pips.
